Miss Marly has been at Three Angels ever since she was in preschool. She was suffering from an extreme case of psoriasis that had just been getting worse over time. This skin disorder made her feel discomfort, both physically and psychologically. She began withdrawing more and more at school and was in obvious pain...

Over the years, we have seen how critical it is that we intentionally craft how we serve the children at Angel House Orphanage in order to have the best possible outcome once they are home: spiritually, medically, nutritionally, emotionally and academically. Play therapy, an important component of attachment theory, is just one of the ways we can assist our kids in reaching their full potential. 

Two days before the big kids arrive at school, Three Angels has a 'soft-opening' for the preschoolers. We've learned that the young ones need a little extra time to acclimate to the routine of school and get comfortable with their teachers. As with preschoolers around the world, there are excited smiles from some, and a few tears from others. 

Bendjina, pronounced "ben-GEE-nah", had been abandoned to St. Damien's hospital last December. She is now 21 months old. Because of her abandonment, there is little known about her. It was noted on a sign by her bed that there was eye "tarnishing" and severe skin irritations caused by a Vitamin A deficiency. She does have a small milky spot over part of her left eye but it is not certain if there is compromised vision at this point. She seemed well liked by the staff and some even asked to take pictures with her before her departure. 

This summer, we are getting into the superhero spirit to highlight a few of the people who serve children and families in Haiti in truly amazing ways. Who needs a cape, a mask, or x-ray vision when you have the heart and grit of these men and women? These are the true heroes; using the everyday disguise of sponsors, volunteers, advocates and donors.
