A Place to Belong: Welcome, Marcelin!

Sometimes the bravest journeys begin with a child carrying a broken heart.

Five-year-old Marcelin recently arrived at Angel House after spending several months in the care of staff at the hospital where he was abandoned. After both of his parents died, he lived in a camp with his father’s girlfriend. But when she realized she could no longer care for him, she entrusted him to the hospital, hoping he would receive the help he needed.

When we heard about Marcelin, we knew Angel House would be the perfect place for his little heart to heal! Even so, saying goodbye to the nurses and doctors he had quickly grown to love was incredibly difficult for him, and he was reluctant to leave. We assured him that everything would be alright—better than alright, in fact—and he agreed to take this leap of faith.

At first, Marcelin was quiet, withdrawn, and too sad to eat. All he wanted was to sit quietly by himself and watch cartoons. But children have an amazing capacity to heal when they are surrounded by love.

Before long, Marcelin began warming up to the other children. Cartoons led to smiles, smiles led to Lego building, and soon he was exploring the playground, bouncing on the trampoline, playing games with his new friends, and dreaming of the day when he can pedal a tricycle just like the other kids. For now, he is teaching the others some of his cool dance moves, and some special friendships have already begun to blossom!

Marcelin has never had the opportunity to attend school, so this summer he'll begin learning the basics as he prepares for this exciting new chapter in his life. Most importantly, he now has a safe home, caring adults, and a family of brothers and sisters who are helping him discover that he belongs and he is deeply loved.

Please join us in welcoming Marcelin to the Angel House family. We can't wait to see all God has in store for this sweet little boy.
